The Whisky Event – London’s Must Attend Whisky Show
The Whisky Event brings together some of the finest producers and enthusiasts in central London later this month. Held in the ballroom at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, it is set to be one of the highlights of the year.
With over 300 whiskies to try, you’ll get the chance to sample some incredible bottles, including some rare and limited edition expressions. The show features a who’s who of Scottish distilleries along with a number representing the rest of the world including New Riff, Cadrona, and Peerless.
One of the highlights of the event will be the Masterclass sessions, which offer a more in-depth experience for those who want especially fine and rare expressions. Led by experts, these classes offer a unique opportunity to taste rare and exclusive whiskies, as well as learn about the history and production methods. In these sessions, the real learning takes place, as you are soaking in knowledge and elevating your expertise.
The highlight of this year’s masterclasses is the Diageo Prima & Ultima masterclass with Colin Dunn. This session includes Auchroisk 47 Year Old, Talisker 41 Year Old, Linkwood 39 Year Old, Singleton 34 Year Old, Port Ellen 41 Year Old and a Lagavulin 28 Year Old. To taste these whiskies individually would be a privilege, together quite extraordinary. Even in such illustrious company, the Port Ellen 41-year-old stands out for me, not only because it has an RRP of £10k a bottle but because it is a closed distillery.
With up to 300 bottles to taste and the masterclasses, you are bound to feel a little hungry. Fortunately, the show also features a Kosher buffet with aromatic hot dishes and cold platters that can be enjoyed with a complimentary cocktail. This is the perfect time to refresh your palate, discuss with others about “must-try” bottles and just have a short break.
With exhibitors showcasing everything from small-batch releases to limited edition bottles, this is a chance to taste whiskies that you might never have had the opportunity to try otherwise. The show attracts some of the top whisky experts including distillers, blenders, and ambassadors, so is an opportunity to meet these industry insiders, ask them questions, and learn more about their whiskies.
I know from friends who attended the last event the organisers held in 2019, just how good it was. The gallery on the website confirms this, with some really old bottles openly being poured.
The Whisky Event is open from 5:30 pm until 9:30 pm on Sunday, 14 May 2023, with unlimited pourings, buffet and one free cocktail. It costs £100 per person or £170 for 2 tickets.
