Haussmann apartments around the Étoile, from the couture streets of the 8th to the quiet squares of Ternes and Passy
As featured in
Twelve avenues meet at the Étoile, and the Arc de Triomphe stands at the centre of them, looking down the Champs-Élysées towards the Louvre. This is the Paris of parades, plane trees and cream stone façades. Walk a few streets back from the traffic, though, and the city changes. You find Parisians buying cheese, children in the parks and very good neighbourhood bistros.
Our collection here runs to 160+ apartments across the 8th, 16th and 17th arrondissements. They range from neat one-bedroom flats off the Avenue de Wagram to family apartments in Ternes, Passy and around Parc Monceau. Some have air conditioning or private parking, which is worth having in this city.
Here is a guide to the quarters around the Arc and the best time to come.

Napoleon commissioned the Arc de Triomphe in 1806, after Austerlitz, and did not live to see it finished in 1836. The Unknown Soldier of the Great War has lain beneath it since 1921, and the flame on the tomb is rekindled every evening at half past six. It is a short ceremony and a moving one.
Climb to the roof for the best view in this part of Paris. The Champs-Élysées runs east to the Concorde and the Tuileries, and the towers of La Défense rise to the west on the same line.

The Champs-Élysées, Avenue George V and Avenue Montaigne frame the Golden Triangle. This is where the great fashion houses keep their flagships and the palace hotels keep their bars. Window-shopping on Avenue Montaigne costs nothing at all.
Towards the river are the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais, both built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle. The permanent collection at the Petit Palais is free, and its garden café is a quiet place to spend an hour. Beyond them, the Pont Alexandre III crosses to the Invalides.

North of the Étoile, Ternes is a properly Parisian quarter. Rue Poncelet is lined with fishmongers, cheese shops and bakeries, and Parc Monceau has colonnades, follies and nannies with prams. Nearby are two house museums worth a morning each: the Musée Nissim de Camondo and the Musée Jacquemart-André. Further north, Batignolles feels more like a village.
To the south-west, Chaillot and Passy run down to the Seine. Here you have the Trocadéro, the Palais de Tokyo and the Musée Guimet. The Fondation Louis Vuitton, Frank Gehry's glass sail in the Bois de Boulogne, is a short ride away.

On 14 July the military parade comes down the Champs-Élysées, and the avenue is traditionally where the Tour de France ends in late July. From late November the plane trees are strung with Christmas lights. Spring and early autumn are the loveliest times to walk the city. In August many neighbourhood restaurants close, so Paris is quieter, sometimes more than you might like.
Eat simply where you can: a long lunch at a brasserie in Ternes, cheese from Rue Poncelet, a box of macarons for the train home. Our concierge can book restaurant tables, museum tickets and private guides.

With 160+ properties in the Champs-Élysées, we can usually find the house that suits you rather than the one that happens to be free. Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.
You book with us directly, with no booking fees. Questions about access, parking, pool heating or how far it really is to the nearest beach go to people who can find out the answer.
Restaurant reservations, museum and Arc de Triomphe tickets, private guides, babysitters, and transfers from Gare du Nord, Charles de Gaulle and Orly. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.
Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.
The Golden Triangle of the 8th puts you closest to Avenue Montaigne and the Grand Palais. Ternes and Monceau in the 17th are more residential, with markets and parks, and suit families well. Chaillot and Passy in the 16th are quiet and elegant, and close to the Seine.
April to June and September to October bring mild weather and the city at its best. December has the Christmas lights. The 14 July parade is memorable, but the area is very busy around it.

The Eurostar runs from St Pancras to Gare du Nord in around two and a quarter hours. From there, a taxi or the Metro brings you to the Étoile, which is served by Metro lines 1, 2 and 6 and the RER A. Our concierge can arrange transfers from the station or from Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.
